Drywall Sheet Count Calculator

Add rooms and walls, hang with scrap reuse, and get a field-accurate sheet count before you order.

How many sheets of drywall do you need?

A sheet count isn’t floor square footage divided by 32 or 48. Crews hang full sheets, stagger butt joints, and reuse rips where they can. This calculator follows that same approach: you enter rooms (and optional standalone walls), and it lays out sheets the way a job gets hung in the field — it even keeps track of leftover scrap.

This app will help you build accurate estimates, plan dumpster space, or sanity-check a supplier takeoff before you buy.

What this estimator does

It is a planning tool, not a substitute for walking the job. Odd angles, bulkheads, and weird openings still need a human eye.

How to use it

  1. Start the estimator and add each room (length, width, ceiling height).
  2. Add standalone walls if you have them (garage party wall, stair chase, etc.).
  3. Review the layout and total sheets — including scrap.
  4. Cross-check weight if you’re hauling board yourself, then order.

Why scrap matters

You’re going to have leftover board. Knowing roughly how much scrap to expect helps you decide whether you need a dumpster or a truck run to the transfer station — and keeps you from under-ordering “just enough” full sheets and coming up short on the last wall.
